The spammers apparently think it's their personal advertising medium. If
they sent each list member an individual email after harvesting the
addresses would it be spam? Then why isn't it spam when they let the
list send it for them? Looking at the posting history of a couple of
recent advertisers I see no contributions to the list. One asking a
couple of simple Linux questions, then suddenly has a Cobalt product to
sell.
