A quick fix might be to type this at the prompt:
TERM="vt100"; export TERM
or
TERM="xterm"; export TERM
Try searching google.com for your error message, there are quite a few sites
referencing your error.

I just started playing with remote console via SSH (as well as local).
Whenever I attempt to execute a command, I get
Unknown terminal "unknown" in $TERM
I bet this is an easy one.
