I seem to remember reading somewhere (probably here) that someone had done
an OS restore of a Raq 4r OS to a Raq 3i box, and successfully gotten RAID
0 to work on the 3i box.
I decided to try it. I was able to get a Raq 4i OS to install flawlessly
on a Raq 3i, but I simply couldn't get the 4r OS to install. It loads the
kernel from the restore CD, starts to check and format the disk in the 3i,
then dies, and continually tries to reboot itself.. I tried it with the
2nd drive installed as a slave to the first one, and also with the 2nd
drive installed on its own IDE channel as a master, and with no 2nd drive.
Same result both times. Drives are the same size, but different brands, so
may have slightly different architecture.
Is it possible to make this work, or is there a fundamental hardware or
firmware difference between the 3i and 4r that makes it impossible? I
searched the archives, but couldn't find any info on it.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks!
