i've had the same problème (right after the OS upgrade 2...)...
i haven't found the cause of the problème, but the only way to fix it was to
shutdown named (/etc/rc.d/init.d/named stop), then to remove the
/var/run/named.pid, and finally restart named... and now it's ok...
