RE: [cobalt-users] X-Windows on Raq 4r

Jelmer,

I actually found a package for Xfree for Cobalt's Raq3/4. I got that
working, and installed VNC. Works great with out any issues (so far).
Tunnel VNC thru SSH is a piece of cake, just forward ports 590x where x is
the screen your connecting to.
I had tried to get my monitor to work with the cobalt, but it didn't work :(
I did turn on the VGA console, but I got a response back from an engineer
saying it won't work. And it didn't. So, right VNC & Xfree86 is doing what
I need it to do!

I myself was thinking of trying to make VNC work, maybe with KDE or
something. Not sure about the security implications though. VNC behaves like
an X server but is actually a "pc anywhere" like thing, that you can view
from some other machine (multiplatform) using a password in a
challenge-response scheme. With some hacking, you could even tunnel it thru
ssh.

Maybe that's a better idea, not having to set up vga etc. That is unless
you're planning to connect a monitor to the machine?

VNC is at http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/index.html
