As far as I'm concerned, Gerald, everyone can answer a question by
saying "I can help you with that; contact me offlist".
When I point out that someone else is offering services but has never
helped anyone onlist, that's all I'm doing. Pointing it out. Some
people don't realize there are archives and that you can check to see
how helpful someone's actually been.
I make no bones about the fact that helping others at no charge (I
devote between two and four hours every day to list and offlist help) is
my main "prospecting" venue. I've never hidden that.
