I'm sorry in advance for the long post, but I'm attempting to change my
sendmail configuration on a cube 3 to block spammers. I'm going to post
parts of charlie summers excellent post regarding the raq3 and attempt to
modify it to work with the cube 3.
Charlies original is at
http://list.cobalt.com/pipermail/cobalt-users/2001-August/049269.html
Could you please review it, help me with the parts I'm finding sticky and if
I get it correct, it can go into the archive in sensible fashion.
Charlie begins by telling us that what we are going to do will void our
warranty and probably give us terminal cancer.
Charlie then gets into the meat
Ready to play? Cool! After SSHing into the machine (you DO have telnet
shut down, right?), we:
cd /usr/lib/sendmail-cf (change directory to mc home)
su (you're going to be su/god from now on,
so BE CAREFUL!)
cp redhat.mc redhat.mc_orig (backup the original redhat.mc file)
Ok, on the cube 3 I believe the files are in /usr/lib/sendmail-cf/cf
directory and is the cobalt.mc
so on the cube we'd:
cd /usr/lib/sendmail-cf
su
cp cobalt.mc cobalt.mc_orig
charlie then tells us to modify the redhat.mc file, so on the cube we'll
modify the cobalt.mc file. He suggests that we stick the modifications in
the # feature section, which makes sense to me. I thought I'd add the
spamcop in addition to the blacklist_recipients.
Thus:
FEATURE(blacklist_recipients)dnl
FEATURE(dnsbl,`bl.spamcop.net', `Spam blocked see:
http://spamcop.net/bl.shtml?$&{client_addr}')dnl
Charlies suggest that we document the changes...and then to write the new
sendmail.cf
He says that we can do this by
m4 m4/cf.m4 redhat.mc >new_sendmail.cf
which I think we should change to
m4 m4/cf.m4 cobalt.mc >new_sendmail.cf
Of course, here I get stuck with the error:
[root cf]# m4 m4/cf.m4 cobalt.mc >new_sendmail.cf
m4: m4/cf.m4: No such file or directory
cobalt.mc:6: m4: Cannot open m4/cf.m4: No such file or directory
Sigh, snarl, mutter. Help?
