The Cobalt 1 has allowed admin ftp login has been working fine for years.
The other day the passwd file became corrupted. If you used the window
access to users you would see two of each user. Weird. I cleaned out the
passwd file that had two complete listings. It was easy to remove as a
complete listing of all most users were listed above a complete listing of
all users plus those added since the date of corruption. Could not log in as
admin using telnet after this. Could still access the gui interface and
reinstalled the admin password which seemed to clear up telnet problem.
Everything worked fine after this. Email, remote access logins using Shiva
worked fine, and the same with webpages for all users. However, I received
this message this morning from cron daemon
su: cannot run : No such file or directory
mv: /tmp/locatedb.12472: No such file or directory
/etc/cron.daily/updatedb.cron: could not create /var/lib/locatedb
I have since discovered that none of my users, admin, or anyone can use ftp.
We get the error message from FTP no user or password found.
Any suggestions are much appreciated.
