Jef,
Thanks for nailing this one down. Last week I closed off
some ports, and that prevented the Active Monitor utility
from checking the Samba utilities. Once again, thanks for
the help.

Jeff
Not sure if you've tried this but do you have the firewall
on your Qube
activated ?
If so try disabling it and wait for 15 minutes and check
Active Monitor to
see if
the problem cleared. You may need to reconfig the firewall.

I've got an extra RaQ3 fan, don't know the model number, but
from Sunon.
I bought an extra a while back. If you think it will fit,
let me know. I
am going to my office at the data center in the next 30
minutes and can
look at it.

Subject: [cobalt-users] CCE abruptly disconnected
Reply-To: cobalt-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hello,
We have been having a few problems with our Cube III, but
the only major
problem lately has been the following Syslog message.
<problem>
From: <root (Cron Daemon)>
To: <root>
Sent: Monday, January 21, 2002 9:45 PM
Subject: Cron <root@SempermedUSA> /usr/sbin/swatch -c

ERROR: CCE abruptly disconnected.
</problem>
This Syslog message was being e-mail every 15 minutes to us.
A reboot fixed
this (of course), but I would like to know what's causing
this and if it can
be fixed. I have one theory at this point, but it's not that
strong of a
theory.

Yeah, but it's ugly.
I have to admit that I am from a Windows environment and the
pretty
pictures do it for me.
But, when necessary, I will go to the Command Line Interface
(CLI) and
check there.
I have had a few problems with this thing and really don't
like the web
interface a whole lot. But being inexperienced with this
box, I have a
lot of difficulty trouble shooting the SMTP Server/Service.
Was hoping that there was a better method of dealing with
it.

Hi
I tried to follow that but got the following error at
./configure:
checking for libgmp.a... configure: error:
I couldn't find libgmp.a (the GNU multi-precision math
library).
- if you don't have it, get it from
http://www.swox.com/gmp/,
compile it in a directory that is a peer of this
one, and
then run ./configure again
- if you do have it, you can put a symlink in the
current
directory, like this:
ln -s /some/place/libgmp.a .
and then run ./configure again
I have downloaded a gmp file but not sure what i should be
doing with
it.

Subject: [cobalt-users] CPU heavily loaded, low on memory,
smtp server not responding
Reply-To: cobalt-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hi All,
I woke this morning to the following scary messages from my
cobalt:
#1. (at 5:07 this morning) "Over the past fifteen minutes,
the CPU has been
heavily loaded", etc..
"1 minute load average: 99.50
5 minute load average: 97.58
15 minute load average: 71.17"
#2. (at 5:08 this morning) "The SMTP (mail) server appears
to be down", etc....
#3. (at 5:30 this morning) "Memory on the Cobalt server is
heavily used", etc.
Total memory is: 389084 KB
Used memory is: 371784 KB
Free memory is: 17300 KB
Percent used is: 95"
The box usually runs with a 15 minute load average of less
than 0.50 even
during peak times.
So this was a major spike!
I'm not sure what was going on at that time. The only
somewhat processor
intensive thing running at that time is webalizer 2.
I checked my logcheck messages and the only thing I found
strange was tons
of "lame server" and "bad referral" messages. I usually get
a few of these
every hour but this was hundreds of them right around the
time I was
getting memory, cpu and smtp messages.
For example:
Jan 22 05:12:04 admin named[507]: bad referral
(208.209.in-addr.arpa !<
141.208.209.in-addr.arpa) from [209.10.66.55].53
Jan 22 05:12:05 admin named[507]: Lame server on
'137.128.89.149.209.in-addr.arpa' (in
'128.89.149.209.in-addr.arpa'?):
[63.73.84.2].53 'ns1.redmagnet.com'
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!
Brian

Better or prettier? You never asked for a pretty way of
