Re: [cobalt-users] Support, Warranty and Hype

Though it's been a week, I decided to take Thom's bait, and answer both
his trollbaiting emails to me on this subject...

Thom, the way the Cobalt RaQs use virtusertable is the main problem. I
choose not to completely rewrite their system, so I'm stuck.

Are you suggesting I rewrite the entire gui? Or just create a new
program that completely rewrites virtusertable every time it changes?
And if so, do you want to be able to send mail to anyone at
'subdomain.domain.com', or only at 'domain.com'? And once you've made
your decision, can you be sure everyone else will want to do it the same
way?

And presuming I did take it upon myself to completely rewrite the system
to accommodate both the gui and the needs of majordomo, would I then
write a patch into the kernel that would detect every time you loaded a
Cobalt package that would try to write it back, and then make all the
changes all over again, perhaps to code unthought of when the original
changes were made? Or just tell people sorry, you can't upgrade
anymore? Or begin my own upgrade tree, and become responsible for
everyone's upgrades from then on?

Or do you suggest I just completely rewrite majordomo so it'll work
independtly of virtusertable?

Who will pay for this approximately two man-year project? You?

Perhaps if/when I win first prize in the lottery. But, oh, I forgot...
I don't play.
