Have the user try http://www.mail2web.com
Tell them to put in their email address and password.  This is a free web
mail service that accesses any users mail box.  You should try it yourself
to understand how it works and what advertising they put up.  Anyway, this
is the simplest way I've found for users to look at messages before they
download large file attachments and it works on any pop3 mail server.
Obviously, if you run neomail or a local web based email program on your
server you may prefer directing them to that.
