With a recent eXPensive OS from Redmond, a subtle default setting was made
preventing the machine from working in an NT4 environment. I run a samba
server as a Domain Controller, which has the functionality of NT4 PDC. The
setting, "Domain Member: digitally encrypt or sign channel data (always)"
is located in Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security
Policy -> Local Policies -> Security Options. The option immediately
following it is the same, except it says (when available), which leads me to
believe this was a sneaky way to force a server upgrade. Having never used
ME, I can't say if this is the same issue, but it wouldn't suprise me.
(imagine how fun this was to research)
