Did you apply any patches to this box recently? Sometimes the patches update
file ownership and privileges. Just a WAG...

I think the problem they had with you using the main Admin is that you are
sending out the keys to your server in cleartext. So the real solution is
not to ftp into your server as the main admin.

If you want to have access to all the sites, many ppl on the list have
recommended WinSCP2. It's very similar to ftp in the way that it works
except it uses SSH and is much more secure with that precious Admin
password.
