Instead of "syslog*", try "syslogd" (no quotes). Also look at what
was happening in the logs before it shut down; might have been a DOS,
overrun from the latest Windoze virus or maybe a spammer hitting the
box and eating up all available memory. Whatever it is, try to fix it
so that doesn't happen again.
