Um, ok, so you think it shouldn't be done, and in the next sentence you
did it ;P

Yes, It's solicited verses unsolicited. When you posted 'hardware for
sale' messages, they weren't in response to anyone ASKING ;)
Jeff's message was an answer to a question. He provided information, most
of the answer, and a place to go if the person asking need more
information that people were able to give for free. Jeff contributed time
and energy to Providing the information, and a minor comment about the
fact he is able to help more for a fee, i see no problem with that.
I have NEVER seen Jeff post messages containing ONLY offers to sell, he
does not post unsolicited messages selling , messages selling hardware
that anyone else on the list can probably sell, and rarely even mentions
that he consults, tho most list members who have been reading the list for
a while are aware of it. A number of other folks also do consulting, they
offer free help on the list, this takes resources, occasionally
benefitting , unobtrusively , when people really need more than can
reasonable be given for free inf oon a list, or where the time required
for the end user to do something themself exceeds what their time is worth
in relation to what they coud pay someone else to have it done for them
does not seem like an inappropriate use of the list to me. Of course, i
don'tmoderate the list, cobalt alone has that perogative, they seem to
have more or less allowed most posts to the lsit, so your only real guide
is how many people are you willing to annoy and what is your reputation
worth :P
But, i hate to see a limit

And this relates how?

I would also read into this a friendly warning that what is wanted is not
trivial, this too is usefull information....*shrug*
Seriously, if you want to tellpeople you do consulting, first prove you
actually know something by answering a question :P
Then if you want to mention you are also a consultant, noone will care...
[Well, within reason, the 30 line .Sig will probably get noticed ;]
