Simple question 1: Am I being led down a loopity loopy horse manure
path?
It can be a more difficult process in getting FrontPage extensions
working on Linux. Since of course they are designed for IIS it is often
hard to get any good support to get them working properly under
Apache/Linux
Simple question 2: Is installing these things difficult?
Answered under question 1.
Simple question 3: Are they available for this system?
To my knowledge they are currently available for the RAQ 4. I have two
myself and would love to upgrade them to 2002(XP) extensions but haven't
found any simple way or anyone willing to do it yet. If you find someone
let me know.
Simple (rhetorical) question 4: Do I need a lawyer and a new ISP? I
think
we've dropped over a grand just getting up a partially functional
webserver,
mailserver, and I'm not sure if the FTP server's been touched yet...
Sounds to me like you have spent too much on a server already. You can
colo for as little as $100 a month without even having to purchase the
server. Too late for that advice now though. If FrontPage is a big issue
Cobalt/Linux supports it in a very basic way. You will always run into
features that don't work (databases, etc). For basic designs the 2000
extension functions fine but overall if you plan on doing complex
FrontPage sites I would recommend IIS for that.
Anyone with different experiences feel free to correct me.
Hope this info helps a little.
