Hello Mark,
I'm not sure I follow yours or Jims comments... :-)
You take out a license for a piece of software like this, and it
included updates for that period. Autocontrolpro provides for a 6 mth,
12 mth or 5 yr license and includes tech spt and updates for whatever
period you buy into.
What's the other option? Buy a piece of software and then have to buy
each and every major update? We've seen this system in place
elsewhere...buy 2.0 for $X and get 2.01/3/4/5/6/and so on. But when
3.0 comes out...dust off the chequebook again.
phpsupportdesk and vbulletin are two examples that come to mind of the
first scenario. modernbill is one that I believe adopts the second
one. each update that comes out has so far "managed to be distributed
under the original license" (or words to that effect). But I believe
there'll come a time when that piece of software gets squared away
properly and a new release is issued. Guess who has to buy it then.
:-)
But anyways...just spreading the word. It's a good piece of kit by the
looks of it, so we're looking forward to getting it online next week.
Cheers
Gary
