I think your problem is in the php3 extension. Your server can't process
this because you have an older version of php.
Search the archives on this one.
IIRC, the solutions are either:
1. Download the phpMyAdmin with the php extension (rather than the php3
ones)
or
2. Manually change all the php3 files to php
or
3. Upgrade PHP
