Im trying to configure a modem US Robotics model 5686D to my ra3i

I have it connected to ttyS1 and when i send an echo to it through the port it does flash the modem lights so there at least is a path to it.

 Right now I have 2 problems

 1. The modem doesnt see anything on the port normally so it doesnt answer when dialed.

 2. I want to configure it to allow me to log into it remotely and not only be able to admin the servers there but also have a tcp/ip route out through the router and out to the net. Just about like I was an ISP with a dial up server but using it just for me so i can set a static IP address in my laptop and it wont need to assign me one.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it or if someone can just configure it for me i would be happy to pay them to do it.
