[cobalt-users] RaQ4 - Logrotate problems rotating

Hi
We changed our web stats program over the weekend to awstats, now I know
more or less nothing about logrotate.
Before the weekend, the logs were rotated once a week 4am Sunday mourning -
takes the contents of web.log and gunzips them the web.log.1.gz
So this is what I did, which I know is wrong now because when I came in
this mourning, it gunziped to web.log.1.gz
I edited each site listing in /etc/logrotate.d and /etc/logrotate.onboot
and took the listing that said weekly - was full sure that that would do
it.

This is how I have set up awstats - it goes to web.log for each virtual
site(I set up under crontab) at around 5am every mourning takes the stats
info and clears web.log to zero - that is what I want it to do.

How do I stop logrotate gunzipping web.log every night?
Could someone explain how logrotate works - explain it to me like I'm a two
year old or else point me to a good tutorial on the web.

This morning I decompressed web.log.1.gz and rename the output(web.log.1)
to web.log and then ran my stats update, which works fine but very messy
I'm hoping to have this sorted out before 4am tomorrow morning.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
