Are you sure it's running?  What errors / output do you get?  If you
configured it to run as a certain user (like mysql) try becoming that user
before starting mysql.  I've installed MySQL many times on the RaQ2 from
source so if you have problems still post the steps you took on list and
I'll take a look.
