I would try to install the .pkg file again and see what happens.
Really, what do you have to loose since it appears that some script
kiddie somewhere "owns" your box anyway. My experience is that it will
not be long and they will purge the box to cover their tracks. This is
not an issue you want to let slide for any length of time.
P.S. If you plan on saving the current OS install then make sure you
replace all the binaries affected by the hack before you try to reboot
the machine or it may never come back afterwards.
