You have the major text editors installed by default, namely;
pico
vi
emacs
Concerning "operating" them, I recommend that you obtain reading
material pertaining to both vi and emacs, O'Reilly and Associates both
publish excellent books on the respective editors. Pico is so easy you
almost don't need a manual, but "man pico" is certainly a good resource
to illustrate some of the finer points of use.
Finally, remember that this is a list handling "Cobalt" issues. Basic
text editor and related fundamental questions should really be read up
on before posting help questions to the list. There is a monthly
Meta-FAQ which is posted on the first day of each month. If you
subscribed today then perhaps you missed it, if so please email me off
list and I'll be happy to email you a copy. It *is* helpful and covers
most of the issues that newcomers both to the Sun/Coablt users mailing
list and Linux will find to be of value.
Everyone has to begin somewhere and indeed your journey has begun.
Congratulations on your server acquisition, Linux is a fascinating
learning experience and Sun/Cobalt makes an interesting and highly
flexible product.
Good luck to you!
