[cobalt-users] Qube3 firewall GUI problems

I'm attempting to configure Cobalt's Basic Firewall on our Qube3 using the
Qube's GUI.

My problem is that once I reach a certain (apparently variable but high)
number of rules in the chain, saving the changes leaves me with fewer rules
than I started... say, 29 instead of 32, or 25 instead of 29.

Needless to say this isn't a glitch I can just tolerate.

I've seen the same behavior in the DNS - sometimes adding new records
appears to "overwrite" old ones, and I'm fixed at the same total number of
records. In the DNS, deleting the new ones brings the old ones back.

I checked in the archives and this appears to be a known problem. Has Cobalt
released a patch? A dedicated firewall box was suggested, but firewall was a
quarter of the reason this Qube was purchased. (It's been with the company
longer than I have, though.)

Is the GUI firewall worth working with at all? I'm not sure, but poking
around in the system makes me suspect that the ipchains installation on the
Qube is as un-configurable as the sendmail installation (which is another
complaint for another time).
