PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is the newer, preferable replacement for
the patented/copyrighted GIF format. Webalizer now generates its stats
in PNG format instead of GIF format, and you have to have the
appropriate library to support that.

Where did you get this from?  It's not the PKG from
http://pkg.nl.cobalt.com/ is it??  Because that just installs and runs
without having to do anything else...

If you install the PKG that Taco built, you shouldn't need to do
anything else to make it work (just wait until 4am and it will kick off
by itself as part of the magical cron-fest).  If you are trying to roll
your own from an RPM or tarball, I'm not sure I can help you with that
one.
