Here is my perspective... 8-)
I bought a RAQ4r with the intention of learning and building ASP sites
for my clients using ChiliASP.
I am using Borland Interbase as it was pre-installed and had fantastic
features like stored procedures.
I haven't used MySQL as I figured it would be (at the time) to technical
for me to learn how to install it and maintain it on a Linux box. It is
now a very simple download and Install right from the Cobalt PKG site. I
have learned the hard way in many respects to Interbase, there is far
more accessible support for MySQL and with MySQL / RAQ issues you will
soon see that this mailing list (and archives) becomes your best friend.
As previously stated, Access files are not an option, ChiliASP can read
them but the need to be on a MS server. An alternative to this is to
save your MDB files as Dbase files. (I don't know if this is good / bad
or otherwise)
If you want to know more about Interbase.
It is the Classic version, not the Super Server version (This can be
important, read on...)
A GUI front end is fairly expensive and not all features will work
because it is Classic version
An ODBC driver, that works well, is Easysoft's driver, after the trial
period you up for some more bucks
Syntax is very powerful, but some simple tasks are quite tough at times
(for me as a learner anyways...)
I never bothered using Stored Procedures anyway and may have been better
off with MySQL as I haven't needed them.
I understand that Interbase Classic version is also no longer supported
or being furthered by Borland (I believe it true anyway...)
Summary:
I suggest MySQL will be cheaper to maintain as you need no additional
outlay for drivers and GUI's, what I have seen around is awesome and a
lot of it is free to use. I will be installing it at some period as I
have seen some great MySQL / RAQ packages that I just can't use or play
with using only Interbase.

Subject: [cobalt-users] Postgresql Problems with Raqs
Reply-To: cobalt-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hi all,
We have 12 Raq 3/4 systems. Over the past couple weeks, the postmaster
process on a few of them has started to go a little haywire:
PID USER PRI NI SIZE RSS SHARE STAT LIB %CPU %MEM TIME COMMAND
29744 postgres 17 0 876 124 76 R 0 92.9 0.0 137:06
postmaster
After looking around further, there are files in the
/home/pgsql/base/cobalt directory called pg_attribute_relid_attnum_index.1,
pg_attribute_relid_attnum_index.2, etc etc, up to 25,000! They're all zero
byte files. I shut down postgres, removed the files, restarted postgres and
all was normal again for about a day. Then, after about 18 hours, they
re-appeared again.
From what I've seen around, the internal index has been corrupted and I
need to re-index. However, I'm not sure exactly how to do this. I thought
it was kind of weird it started happening on 3 boxes that we've had for
around the same amount of time. Has anyone else experienced this?
FYI - The boxes are all patched and up to date with the recommended
cobalt packages. Any help with the re-indexing commands would be
appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Did you see a way to shut them out by ip blocking, or is is

Subject: [cobalt-users] CGI problem possible related to DNS
Reply-To: cobalt-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hi all,
Having an odd problem that I didn't find in the archives of the list. I've
been running a RAQ3 for almost a full year with a number of CGI scripts. I
host several domains and have added a few domains in the past. This past
week I added a new domain and now my CGI scripts that post data, a
guestbook, WeBBBS all take forever to actually post the information.
I've deleted the domain and restarted http and that doesn't fix it so I've
done a restore from my previous backup of the config settings and then
everything works just fine. I've tried this twice and it messes up the cgi
scripts that are actually posting to a page or a database when I add or
modify one of the domains.
Any ideas on what might be causing this to occur? It is a new problem.....
Thanks in advance....

Hello ,
I try to install a cgi script on my raq3
First I checked cgi allowed in my GUI interface
After by ftp I don't see any cgi-bin directory
So I decided by ssh to create one but not in the root web
and I make a ScriptAlias in http.conf in the virtualHost section.
( I don't know if it is necessary with cobalt ...)
My scriptalias is recognized but
when I start my perl script by http I have an error message :
"CgiWrapper Error - File not found "
but with terminal (ssh) with #perl myscript.pl ... the script starts.
so .. what's my error ?
If you have any ideas ... let me know !
Thanks

I believe that you will have to edit
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 to change the IP permanently.
Else next time you reboot, you will be back to square 1.

Hi,
They are left overs from redirecting the Nimba worm. They were suggested

You might not need them.

Very many thanks to all the kind list members who contributed. I learned a
lot and I think the archive has been improved a little since this thread
will be easier to search and follow than the previous ones.
I'm embarassed to say it turns out it was working after all. I just couldn't
see it on my connection. I've got cable modem (Blueyonder, in the UK) and
I've suspected before that it's rubbish - DNS changes etc take hours longer
to be seen on it that on other connections. I've just connected to a dialup
with an analog modem and my 404 is working fine. (I should say in fairness
that downloading large files on BY is very fast.)
Just two (unrelated and possibly OT) loose ends to tie up:
1. Can anyone suggest anything I can do to work around Blueyonder's
ludicrous cache policy?
2. What do the lines
RedirectMatch (.*)\cmd.exe$ http://127.0.0.1
RedirectMatch (.*)\default.ida$ http://127.0.0.1
RedirectMatch (.*)\root.exe$ http://127.0.0.1
in Erik Venema's access.conf do?
Thanks again everyone
Eddie Bishop

You'll probably find the answers here: http://www.sographic.com
Sounds like you went to a lot of unnecessary trouble. I just create a
cgi-bin directory via FTP as the siteadmin user. No SSH necessary. Scripts
should be uploaded by the siteadmin user. (Not the server admin.)

Diana,
Hmmm, if you find it, please let me/us know. I am currently on
IE6 (use both Linux and Win) and both my local error pages and a
few remotes I just tried still do what I expect - but that
doesn't mean Uncle Bill isn't in there trying.....

How do you call the script from html?
Does the virtual site have execute permissions on the cgi-bin directory.
I don't think http can go above /web in the file tree.

neomail/cgi-bin/neomail-prefs , search for 'sucks' edit inside the
quotes, put what tyou want ;) or arrange for all new users to have a
default sig file before they use it the first time (the script above is
used to fill in empty pref's files on creation)
ps: I agree it's a bit...um..unprofessional ;)

I want to keep an archive of the messages sent to the mail list. I
need for new subscribers to be able to access the old postings. I

archive_dir =
Does this mean that I cannot archive posts to the list? Am I missing
something? I only have one domain that really needs this capability.
