List,
Where do I tell the Raq3 what IP addresses are assigned to it for it's DNS
services.
Does the server automatically use the same IP address that is assigned to
the server?
In other words if the server is assigned say 192.56.56.56 through the front
You do not need to tell the Cobalt which IPs are assigned to it.
you first of all set the IP address for the server itself using the
front panel. If you wish nso.myserver.com to be the name of your
primary DNS server and your DNS server has IP 192.56.56.56, do the
following:
1. tell your domain provider that nso.myserver.com is the DNS server
name you have and has IP address 192.56.56.56.
2.Also tell them that the dns servers for myserver.com are
nso.myserver.com and nso.myispsserver.com (assuming your ISP is doing
the secondary DNS)
3. Set the following DNS records in your raq 3:
Type Host Domain parameter 1 Parameter2
A nso myserver.com 192.56.56.56
NS - 192.56.56.56 nso.myispsserver.com
Once you have done this, dns requests for other Domains which are
listed as using ns0. myserver.com, will be directed at your server.
You do not need to assign a specific IP to the DNS serving part of
the machine. It is important to have your dns server name and IP
address listed with your naming authority. Otherwise they will be
going in circles:
Where is www.myserver.com?
Don't know, lets look it up. It uses nso.myserver.com as dns

...eventual melt down!
If your domain name authority has a listing for nso.myserver.com as
192.56.56.56, then the following will occur:
Where is www.myserver.com?
Don't know, lets look it up. It uses nso.myserver.com as dns
Where is ns0.myserver.com?
192.56.56.56
Where is www.myserver.com?
192.56.56.100 (for example)
I hope this is a reasonable explanation.

Jason
