Here are some URL's featuring a discussion around PHP vs Perl (some of these
URL's are quite long - just copy & paste):

http://librenix.com/features.php3?inode=129
http://apachetoday.com/news_story.php3?ltsn=2000-07-07-001-01-NW-LF-SW
http://php.weblogs.com/php_versus_perl

http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/library/script-survey/index.html?dwzone=web
http://www.perlmonth.com/features/benchmarks/benchmarks.html?issue=4&id=9351
http://www.phpdev.com/articles.php?task=view&articleID=2

Moving to mySQL might be your best bet at this stage - it appears as if there is
no clear winner between PHP and Perl at this stage of the game ...
