There is a solution - it's working for me - and to take the discussion off this forum, I'd be happy to discuss my experiences via email if it helps.
John,IMHO, this would actually lead to more traffic on this list. If a difinitive solution were posted *somewhere* or had time to make it into the archives (I searched for three days before finally re-upping my subscription so I could post on the subject) then we'd be done with this problem and onto the next (perhaps that will be memory consumption issues with the last kernal update?)
My quick and dirty work-around has my sites producing stats again but is hardly a good solution, especially for anyone who has a large amount of sites on their boxes (I only have 17, all managed by me)
