Slow login as in how? Email, telnet, ssh? Into what type of machine?
For me the slow logins were because I use 192.168.x.x on my internal
network, which wasn't defined in any DNS files, so it would take a while
to try to do a reverse lookup before it would login for ssh or smtp. I
edited the /etc/host file and added the ip addresses in there and a name
in the following format
192.168.x.x	int1.xxxxx.xxx int1

There is tabs between each field, this solved my problem, because on the
server it checks the host file before it checks dns.

PS: The list being down was annoying, how else do I know my email
server is running then from the 100 posts a day in here. =) So besides
being informative it is a great way to test my server.
