Hi Guys,
After following this list for a little moment I saw a couple of
people asking how to backup their MySQL and PostgreSQL in an cheap but still
efficient manner.
Well here is the answer. In addition to our weekly general backup ( Veritas
Backup Exec ), I added a little shell script which backups the MySQL
databases, the PostgreSQL databases and the /etc directory.
( /home/sites would be way to heavy !!! CPU load etc...)
Three seperate tar.gz files are made, and these three files are then
archived in a file contained the hostname-date.tar name ( date in format
ddmmyyyy)
This nice archive will then be transported via FTP to the server that you
specify.
So after a week you'll have a nice collection such as:
cobalt1-10102001.tar
cobalt1-11102001.tar
cobalt1-12102001.tar
etc... ( if your machine is called cobalt1.mydomain.com )
So if anybody is interested,
please just send me a mail off-list.
Carrie,
what is that website of yours called again, maybe you would like to add it
Well that's all for now.

Linux/Unix is very user friendly,
it's just very picky about who its friends are !!!
