Is the Cobalt "version" of RedHat that much different from the original?  I 
presume it is the hardware specifics that will make it impossible to emulate a 
RaQ on another box?

One good reason for doing this (cloning, that is), is to experiment with new 
software releases before trying it out on a production server.
