You really should use the RPM for this, there are things that go all over
the place....the rpm has the info about where they should go...
rpmfind.net can look into rpm' sand show you the paths tho, if you really
wanna do it by hand...
Don't put them in /lib, generally, only system things go there, app libs
should be in /usr/lib or /usr/local/lib....
Gnome seems a touch confused about it tho, look here fr a long confusing
list -/

(Or just go to rpmfind.net and type in gnome-libs-devel)
