[cobalt-users] Qube3 smtp problem Posted 15:02 Eastern

Thanks in advance,
I am having a problem with smtp all of a sudden. Just started
last week, and it is intermittent. At random times it just decides to
not send email, it gives the user a timeout error. I have checked the
dns setup, I have checked Knowledgebase and archives of this list. It
is an intermittent problem, and then it works again, this server is a
Qube3 that has been running email for a couple of months now, and it
just started about a week and half to two weeks ago. The primary eth
port is connected to my internal network, and the secondary is set to
the outside world. My Qube is also acting as dns server, and has been
working fine, nslookup works fine to check addresses.
One of the oddest parts of the problem is that If I telnet in to
the internal eth to port 25 it times out (when it is acting up), but if
I telnet to the secondary port it goes right in.
I have checked the dns settings, they haven't changed at all, I
made sure my server is first on the list.
Below is a piece of the maillog file that I don't understand, it
is really the only thing that doesn't make sense to me, is it an active
monitor check? I don't use imap, but when I turned it off, smtp stopped
totally that I could tell, when I restarted imap everything started
going through because it restarted the message queues.

Sorry if I blabbed, Linux and sendmail newbie. Thanks for any help
---Brian
