Re: [cobalt-users] URGENT: JS/Kak@M virus on list.cobalt.com !!!To: cobalt-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Organization: Linuxhelpers.org Another email, a reply to urgent, it finally shows up in the list after waiting a full week through the queue there at cobalt. My error was in replying to the message with the wrong return address. I did recieve a notice that my reply to a message was on hold, but other replies had made it to the list. I think that many of us have made this error because we are human and we handle mail from different computers or applications as we do our daily tasks.
The reason that this is turned on is so that not just anyone can send stuff to the list. Believe me, you'd rather have it on. I sort through several SPAM emails a day that try to go to the list and end up getting bounced back. In the future, just make sure that you reply with the right address. That can't be too hard.
I did get a message, but I find it interesting that it took a full week to be redirected to/by our list manager. I think this suggests the list is a bottom priority to Sun, when, IMHO, we should be higher. I know things are tight, but by ignoring the list (filtering is good, batching the queue once a week is bad.) Is SUN hoping some additional revenue will flow thier way? Please sort out your servers and "help mail" policies so we can really help each other on this list.
Sun doesn't want to maintain this list, nor do they care about its current status. I take care of the list simply because I happened to have the admin password and I do care about Cobalt's products and customers (not to say that Sun doesn't; they just don't see the point of maintaining mailing lists.) I normally go through the queue once every day or every other day; you happened to catch it at the worst possible time. :\ Regardless, you do realize what happened, and you fixed the problem yourself by replying with the proper email address.
Sun's policy is to forward all users to the Sun message boards. I and several others realize the value of having a mailing list instead of or in addition to those message boards, and right now my personal opinion is that the Sun support forum is not up to par, since there don't seem to be many knowledgeable people responding to the requests for help. I have put in a request for the mailing lists to be mentioned more prominently on the support forum site. They have changed the wording from "Archives" to "You can subscribe to", but I am pushing for further recognition because there are actually a lot of knowledgeable people here. :)
Also. Can we fix this 8 hour lag thingy? It drives me nuts.
I'm not sure what is causing this, so I can't fix it, but I will forward your request to the appropriate people.
Thanks, Erica
