Pretty much all of the colo facilities physically located in
lower Manhattan, many of which have/had the very best of the best of
everything, and which had planned for what they thought was every
possibly problem, experienced extended outages in the past couple of
weeks. Verizon had problems, AT&T had problems, 60 Hudson
experienced problems, etc. A search of the Nanog archives will
result in a basic understanding of just how far some of these
facilities went to try and keep their clients online, and just how
far some competing facilities went to try and help them keep their
clients online. There's also been one report on either nanog or
inet-access (I don't recall which) of a non-US based provider whose
connectivity was just pulled in order for their Government to
support the US' battle plan.
Kicking any of them when they are down isn't going to help
any of us. The odds of any colo facility not experiencing problems
under such conditions are slim, to nothing.
This server may or may not have been located in lower
Manhattan, but I personally don't think asking where the server was
physically located is out of line in today's world. And, feel free
to flame me, but I also think that suggesting that any one who had
or has a server in one of the affected facilities move it is a
crime.
