[cobalt-users] Log File Problems

Hi everyone - I've got a Cobalt RAQ4I - the weirdest thing is happening -
just noticed it - all of the logs for every domain on this server are from
April!! I can't figure out how to get the thing back on track so that it
keeps updating it's log files - haven't changed anything out of the box.
The machine just stopped loggin back in April - I've tried telnetting in and
erasing the log files on a domain - but it just regenerated ones for April
again!
Help if you can please!
Thanks!
Judd

I found majordomo in my /usr/local/majordomo/ directory along with
directories associated with all the domain names hosted on my server.
I would like to see if the majordomo application will be a good
solution for the application I have in mind.
I need a step by step procedure on how to activate this application
for one of my domains.
I did not see this in my Cobalt documentation.
I have version 1.94.4 on my server. I understand there is a 1.94.5
version available.

Subject: [cobalt-users] strange FTP problem
Reply-To: cobalt-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hi,
I have a strange FTP access problem. I have a Virtual Site hosted on Raq4r.
The owner wants to update his files using FTP. When I was testing his
problem I found these issues:-
When I connect from my workstation running W2k pro using WS-FTP , only main
admin can login successfully, but when I use site administrator id and
password it refuses and gives :-
230-
! Receive error:connection reset
! Logon failure:so quitting
I tried to ftp from the command prompt on my W2k PC and I got the same
problem, only main admin can ftp.
Now, when I ftp from another Linux or Unix machine to the Raq4 server,
everything works fine !!
proftpd.conf has the following configuration:
ServerName "ProFTPD"
ServerType inetd
DeferWelcome off
DefaultServer on
DefaultRoot / admin
DefaultRoot ~/../.. site-adm
DefaultRoot ~ !site-adm
DefaultChdir ../../web site-adm
Port 21
Umask 002
User nobody
Group nobody
<Directory />
AllowOverwrite on
</Directory>
<Global>
AllowChmod on
TimesGMT off
</Global>
<VirtualHost {raq4 IP address>
DefaultRoot / admin
DefaultRoot ~/../.. site-adm
DefaultRoot ~ !site-adm
AllowOverwrite on
DisplayLogin .ftphelp
</VirtualHost>
Any help is appreciated.
Best regards,
Hisham

Hi Brain,
This sound to me like a rather strange solution.
My step-mother won't walk the dog because the rear wheel of my car is
deflated ???
Did you check that the date of your server is really up-to-time, because if
you just use the daily cron job that is part of the Cobalt Gui you will be
likely to run into trouble, because if your server will be more then 5 hours
out of time, then it won't synchronise anymore with your ntp server.
Check the date on your system, and make sure it's correct.

Try removing the .ftphelp file, the 230 status is just after you log in
ok, and is followed by spew's of help info, the ftp client is probably
barfing, as i remember, windows' ftp client is based on the really old
ancient ftp client code and doesn't have that fixup....

Hi Erik,
Are you speaking of the Raq4 chassis or RaQ4 chassis and soft, or RaQ3
chassis and RaQ4 soft ???
I'm just asking because we runs all our shared hosting machines, using a
RaQ4 chassis, because of the better CPU, but since the rest is all identical
and that we made a lot of changes to the RaQ3 soft, we keep on running that
one. Although we are bound to change sooner or later.
You can check the software version in /etc/build
where you will find something like :
"build 3.148 for a 3000R in English"
Telling you that it is Raq3 soft.
But this still doesn't tell you if you're running a RaQ3 or a RaQ4 chassis,
because in this case it's a RaQ4 chassis.
So you can check the soft via SSH/Telnet, but in order to see the chassis,
you will have to visually check the box.

Ask your customer to send you a log file of his FTP program.

Hi,
I have been trying to setup rdist on a raQ3i. I have tried contacting
support at MagniComp.Com for an answer but no luck. I'm now hoping to
get any helpful feedback from any Cobalt users.
The error message I get when trying to compile is yacc: Command not found
[root@fresh2 src]# make
make[1]: Entering directory `/root/rdist-6.1.5/src'
yacc -d gram.y
make[1]: yacc: Command not found

make: *** [all] Error 2
Has anyone successful installed rdist? Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Reply-To: cobalt-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hi there,
Once again a logrotate question, searched the archives but no clue found
there.
Basically the rotation of my logs ( on a RaQ3 ) take around 18 hours ( 4h00
- 22h30 ), and worst it consumes the entire CPU time. The CPU script seems
to be
/usr/admserv/cgi-bin/.cobalt/webUsage/parseReport.pl, which takes up 95 %
off my precious CPU.
Does anyone have an idea why this takes so long and most of all how I can
fix this. Customers are not complaining, but I'm feeling pretty ashamed
about offering such a coffee mill to my customer.

Yes, I know, but what do you think would happen if you use the one my
customer did create? Do you think that it will generate a kind of
endless-loop?

Nope, Apache has been secured for this kind of errors,
It will say something like
In addition, a 404 referer error has occured when trying to handle a
ErrorDocument.
So don't worry about this. I would like to add that both internal as
external links can be used with the 404 Errordocument, but not with the 401
( Authentication ).

I've noticed that one of my servers has stopped displaying the Cobalt
errordocument pages (404, etc.). I have the option of indexing directories
off, and if I try to browse to a directory with no "index.whatever",
instead of the expected "forbidden" page I get a 503 error from the server
and no error page.
I've gone through the conf files and everything seems to be ok.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

No, we just want to give some customers the posibility to have their own web
based mail. We'll just install a local webmail script for that v-sites. What
we're looking for is a script that creates a POP/IMAP accounts through a
simple HTML form.

yes, thanks.
BUT. We had this problem that on one of our RaQ3 with about 100 sites which
are not very busy the Apache server did reach its MaxClient settings about
three times within one week.
I looked into the logs and every time I saw calls to this one site (site54)
which had this special .htaccess file and 50 or more entries of
[Sat Sep 15 20:35:18 2001] [error] [client 212.123.122.7] client denied
by server configuration: /home/sites/site54/web/.html
This error message was only there for this one site, even if other sites had
also visitors at the same time. I think this one site did cause the
problems, but I can't understand this strange path at the end of the line.
There is no file or directory like this.
Do you have any ideas?
