I have (2) RAQ2's. 2nd unit is not used and I have tried to set it up as a
backup machine in case 1st machine dies.
I have created sites on machine 2 EXACTLY as on machine 1. (site 1 on
machine 1 is same as site 1 on machine 2, etc).
I have used RSYNC to put "/sites" files into backup machine.
Right now I have all the sites setup on backup machine with exact same IP
#'s. Machines are in same Colo center next to each other.
I did that temporarily as a test and thought it would initially cause
problems. But machine 1 is fine and is getting ALL the hits. Why?
Question 1: Why aren't both servers conflicting/fighting to serve the
request? (since my test machine 2 is currently setup with same IP's and
turned on... I don't get it).
Question 2: What's a good plan to "turn on" machine 2 if machine 1 ever
dies? Should I use alternate IP's in setup and then change each IP back to
the REAL ones when I need to activate the backup machine? Is it that simple?
Thanks for any tips. I can regularly RSYNC files in any directories I need to.
