Don't apologize; "listserv" is a specific commercial package (and a
trademark of L-Soft), and not a type of software. You are looking for a
mailing list manager, or just plain ol' list software.
You already have majordomo pre-installed on your RaQ. I can't stand it,
personally, and have installed and use SmartList (list software based on
procmail) instead. I know some other people who swear by mailman (which
controls the Cobalt-Users mailing list, BTW), but it suffers from the same
problem majordomo does, IMHO - hogs boatloads of system resources because
there's a high-level intepretrer under it instead of zippy C code. However,
these packages generally require less "geek" knowledge from the user.
Of course, you _could_ install listserv(r), if you have $2,000 lying
around. But if you do, you'd probably be better off spending it for extra
servers.
Seriously, if you aren't comfortable with installing and maintaining your
own mailing listr software, particularly on a machine that requires a little
knowledge to do _anything_ outside the preinstalled, use the installed
majordomo (and search the archives for methods of getting it to work the way
you want it instead of the way Cobalt wants it to run). Otherwise, I'd
suggest you look into SmartList...but be prepared to sweat a little bit to
get it functioning under the "secret sauce" (or "secret slime," depending on
whether it's doing what you want or not).
