RE: [cobalt-users] OT: Hoping you guys are okay

Carrie, Jeff, and all others that respond to this horrendous event.
There is no need for me to quote part of each posting, posted from
the hearts of a few but speaking for the hearts of many.

I would just like to offer a thought on how to handle all of the
nightmarish events.

Here is a list of things we can all do to better cope.

When we feel sad or down because of a near miss, or of a 'I had been
there just the day before' hold back a little, our sadness in those
situations is nothing like that of those who were there or their
relatives, they are the ones we should be feeling sad for.

When someone says that we must revenge, and I believe that we must
if freedom is to grow to those nations where it is so much needed,
let them not say 'in the name of God' or quote scripture. Freedom
is not a religion, nore is it unique to the religous. Our God, our
Creator (for surely some great being decided that the universe should
be given the chance to exist and that may not be the same God for
everyone) gave us freedom, but don't let us claim revenge in our
Gods name. Claiming revenge as a right of any scripture is to create
a revenge against another religion, and most of the worlds conflicts
today are based upon religion, let us not lead this great country
into such an arena.

When we ask 'what can I do', there is one thing above all that will
help protect against the development of terrorism. Be firm in not
allowing terrorists to determine our behaviour. For one, I will not
fear to go flying, nor will I fear to gaze in awe at the buildings
that past and future people have built even though they be the very
target of terrorists. I say, let's open our airports, lets open our
offices, our parks, and to hell with the plans of terrorists. I will
not allow them to determine what I will do, where I will go, or how
I will do those things that freedom allows me to do.

And should you or I be on a plane that is being hijacked like those
in this most vicious attack on this country, I hope that you too will
stand with me, and put ourselves between the crew and the terrorists.
It seems apparent that the forth plane was brought down by heroic
travellers that prevented even more tragedies by the giving of their
own lives. The other souls in the first 3 planes that did hit their
targets so devistatingly, they would not have had the knowledge that
such an event was happening, and they correctly followed the
recommended option of stay calm, stay still, and stay alive. That
option is no longer a reality. We must stand and be counted.

And finally, we can do one more thing. We can show confidence in
the institutions that make this country great. We should support
rebuilding efforts. The best memorial to the so many many that have
died in this tragedy is to build again, bigger, better and with
even more pride than was put into those landmark buildings, landmarks
to the community, to the country and images of freedoms success.

For all of those lost souls I offer my sympathies, and more to their
families and friends and collegues. To them and all suvivors of
terrorism, be strong, be resolute, and be sure that people all
over this land, all over the world, no matter their color, their
creed, race, religion, faith, sexual orintation, physical or
mental ability, intellectual greatness or challanges, view this event
as a calamity of world shaking proportions. And that our country
will not be alone in retaliating by eradicating the people behind
this act, and we must all do all we can to uplift all nations to
the status of the Free.
