Hi Jeff,
We're renumbered 3 times in the past six months as a result
of upstreams becoming financially unstable (they're all still lit we
just figured it best not to use bankrupt providers). Each time I did
a one minute TTL a week before the change than did the roll late
Friday/Early saturday and we rolled with no complaints whatsoever -
and that included the uptime monitoring services that some of our
clients use. These rolls included name servers and the lot.
Decided to bypass the local players last week and so
we bought a UUnet circuit that we're going to back up with an AT&T
circuit to be installed shortly after the UUNet... We're going
to use the UUNet as the primary so we'll be renumbering again to
UUNet's space (still can't justify our own space) in about a month
or so and I'll do a 1 minute TTl then too.
Practice makes perfect :-)
While we figure this will be our last renumbering for a few
years, it ain't like I'm blowing smoke here. The real trick is to
watch for AOL's proxie long enough to determine it's cycle and then
try to do the roll just before it comes back it. We've almost got
that down to a science too :-)
Peace be with you,
Brent Sims
