You don't need RealServer to allow customers to stream audio and video
from their sites. They *certainly* don't need telnet access to do it!!
I can't even think of what would make you think they did need telnet.
Give these instructions to your customers:
http://dolan.acu.edu/HowTo/how_to_publish_realmeadia_files.htm
Also, make certain that they upload their files in BINARY mode, not
ASCII. ASCII will make the first few seconds of the file play, but
then it will get static-y and go silent for the rest of the clip.
I don't know what kind of a RaQ you have; the RaQ4 comes with the most
common Real extensions already in its mimes file (/etc/httpd/conf).
If your customers are still having trouble, make *sure* they have
RealPlayer set as the default player for RealAudio files (Windows
Media will usually 'steal' this default whenever it can), and that
they try the stream link from a different computer.
If all else fails, try adding the missing mime types from this list
into your mime types file:
To download RealSystem clips to RealPlayer, a Web server must be configured
with
the following MIME types. Ask the Web server administrator to configure the
MIME
types listed in the following table.
Web Server MIME Types for RealSystem Clips and Files
File Type Extension MIME Type
Ram .ram audio/x-pn-realaudio
Embedded Ram .rpm audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin
SMIL .smil and .smi application/smil
RealAudio .ra audio/x-pn-realaudio
RealVideo .rm application/x-pn-realmedia
RealPix .rp image/vnd.rn-realpix
RealText .rt text/vnd.rn-realtext
Have fun!
