While I do want to thank everyone who's tried to help, I do notice with the exception of Rik's suggestion that I try a cert from freeSSL, everyone else has said basically, "tell the customer to change what he does so he can be your customer". Is that really how to run a business? Somehow I don't think so. I'm still hoping for a solution. Perhaps from Cobalt. Perhaps from the list.
Maybe I am coming in a bit late here, but I have some sites that have certificates from Thawte and they work just fine with Netscape and ever with IE if you use it. I have not tried a free certificate and am only using the self generated for myself as I have no customer using the admin interface. I will buy one when I have a customer that needs one.
