It won't help you *now*, but if you make a little shell script to
dump a top output to a text file (or email it to you) every so often,
then you'll be able to go through that file and get an idea of what
happened.

Do you have logcheck installed? It won't help with processes, but if
someone was slamming your machine with anonftp requests or sumfin it
will let you know.
Yes I do. It showed nothing at all out of the ordinary either. All a
bit strange to me. So far I have checked every log file and have
found nothing out of the ordinary and all logs show the machine just
kept going on its business as usual. Also, kswapd appears to be
running along as normal without a reboot. It is almost as if nothing
happened! Hmm. I will keep looking, and any other suggestions will be
good too. Thanks.
