I have my current raq for the same reason.  If a root partition fills up
beyond a certain point, or a data error hits, the box *may* be fixable only
with a restore.  You can ask cobalt for help, they may walk you through a
solution, but it is unlikely.  Your best bet is to recover the files on
another linux box, restore and reinstall.
