Locate is a nice command to use to search files on your system,

However in order to avois going through the tree system on every request it
saves it's info into a database. And when this database is corrupted it
doesn't have any resources to search for files.

Basically destroy the database and rebuild it with updatedb

But there's nothing to worry about, apart from the fact that you just lost a
handy file search engine on your machine, but you can still use
*   whereis
*   find

See the man pages of these to figure out how using them.
