Anybody care to own up? Given the way that some ISPs TOS
people at the slightest complaint, that's completely unjustified.
If I've got a problem I'll sort it out on-list, under my own name.
Perhaps you (Mr. / Ms. Complain-To-ISP) could be big enough to
do likewise.

That's all very well - but it was in the wrong place.
I got rude when you tried to claim it wasn't.
It is a long-standing net convention that advertising is
only welcome where it is specifically allowed. Like most
long-standing net conventions, it's been challenged by a
gazillion newbies, had countless man-years of argument
and gigabytes of postings spent on it, and it continues to
stand.
There's both matters of principle and practice. And frankly
I can't be asked to lay out all the arguments. (It's a job
for somebody that's just out of Newbie-hood themselves.)
If the consensus round here ever changes to the point that the
meta-FAQ entry needs changing, then I'll have to assume that
the Clue level has dropped to the point where the list is
no longer worth bothering with.
Meanwhile the FAQ entry stays - I think it reflects the consensus.
