had the same problem with my cd-rom (Teac IDE). After that I tried to boot
the cd from my cd-writer (Yamaha IDE) - no problem.

my cd-writer is a plextor, and it is the default cdrom that the machine
boots from.  The other cd drive is a creative pc-dvd drive, and I can't for
the life of me determine what the cmos settings are to make it try to boot
from this drive.

Still don't know if the disk will boot on another machine, but should find
out today.
