RE: [cobalt-users] RE: htaccess and FrontPage

Hi,
There is supposed to be a folder named _private in your FP Web. Every
file you put in this folder is protected.
I hope that helps to solve your problems.
:-) Hans

Looking for an answer to this question. I have been searching the
archives for a couple of days and tried all suggestions to no avail.
I'm stuck and need to figure this out if anyone can help. I am having
the same problem as this person in the archives:

<snip>

I too can set up htaccess and htpasswd and it protects the directory
fine but I can no longer publish any changes to the site. Here is one of
the recommendations:

"I set up http://www.cgi-factory.com/password/index.shtml Password
Manager in a client's FrontPage web site with no problems. In the cfg.pl
file I set the path as $passfile="/home/sites/site#/.htpasswd"; with
site# being that site's directory." <snip>

I tried this and I couldn't even access the site anymore. It wouldn't
recognize the login and password. I have also tried telnetting and
creating the htaccess file (another recommendation in the archive) and
even tried changing ownership to no avail.

Does anyone know of a way to protect the directory and still publish
changes to the site through FrontPage?

Thanks for your time.
