Mike,

Have had a look in the /var/log/messages file (have to admit I didn't 
know about that one), and it contains the following information at the 
time the lock happened.

I cannot find anything obviously causing the problem in that, but 
hopefully somebody more knowledgeable will be able to help.

Did you check /var/log/messages?
